How does renewable energy reduce carbon emissions?
Renewable energy generates electricity from naturally replenished sources — sun, wind, water, and geothermal heat — with near-zero greenhouse gas emissions during operation. The only lifecycle emissions come from manufacturing equipment, transportation, and installation.
Over a 25-year lifespan, a solar panel generates approximately 30–50× more clean energy than was needed to manufacture it. Wind turbines typically reach energy payback within 3–6 months of operation, then generate clean power for 20–25 years.

The UK has made remarkable progress in decarbonising electricity:
